About Us
Edge Resort Yogyakarta
Edge Resort is a boutique eco-resort located on a high cliff overlooking the ocean on South coast of Java. The spectacular location means you are on a high mountain facing the sunset, right at the edge of the ocean. Edge Resort features a 200 year old, traditional Javanese teak house, hand hewn stone buildings with Javanese joglo roofs and an amazing infinity pool with a mini-bar and Greek theatre.
The resort is in a protected area of karst stone mountains and surrounded by jungle. Located several kilometres from the nearest village, the only sounds you hear are the crash of waves, the chattering of monkeys and the song of many birds. The antique house serves delicious food in, The Restaurant at the Edge of the Universe.
Edge Infinity Swimming Pool
Close by the heirloom house is a unique infinity pool that seems to merge with the ocean. Crystal blue waters cascade over the edge, seeming as if to fall all the way to the ocean, 150 meters below. At one end is a shallow kiddy pool (70 cm). The main pool is 150 cm deep, while a deeper section curves out towards the ocean.
At one end are submerged marble stools next to a ledge where guests can sit in the water and request drinks as they watch the sunset. Guests may also request their breakfast served on floating trays in the pool. Some say it is the most beautiful swimming pool they have ever seen.
Tebing Samudra Restaurant
The center of Edge Resort is the Heirloom House (Rumah Pusaka), which is the “Tebing Samudra Restaurant”. The house was built by our great, great, great grandparents in the limasan style, in 1822. It was originally in Prambanan, the site of a wonderful, 10th Century Hindu Temple. We took it apart and moved it to Alas Wigude, the site of Edge Resort, in 2004.
We added stone walls and a great fireplace. The teakwood pillars have silver coins under each one, which were planted there in 1822, during the time of Prince Diponegoro and the Java War (1825-1830). Miraculously, the house was undamaged by the great earthquake of 2006. From 2004 to 2020 we used it as a place of retreat, for writing, meditating, praying and being alone from the hustle and bustle of the city. We called it “Pondok Jati Rasa”, Home of Authentic Sense. After two or three days here, the soothing sound of crashing waves seems to synchronize with the beating of our hearts.
The ”Rumah Pusaka” is now the “Tebing Samudra Restaurant” (Resto Edge). It includes a large deck with stunning views, an inside dining room with antique carved wooden walls, an air-conditioned private dining room for small groups or meetings (available October 2022) and an expanded kitchen. Guests are also welcome to take meals on the terraces near the infinity pool. Our chefs are ready to pamper your tastes with delicious Indonesian food and selected dishes from around the world.
