10 Reasons You Should NOT to Love Edge Resort Yogyakarta

10 Reasons You Should NOT to Love Edge Resort Yogyakarta
  1. If you are seriously afraid of heights and even the thought of being on top of a mountain or near a cliff edge makes you dizzy, then don’t go to Edge Resort Yogyakarta. It really is at the edge of a high cliff overlooking the ocean.
  2. If your life is too peaceful, too calm and too free of stress, Edge may not be your cup of tea. Edge is a place of peace, rest and healing. If you are not careful, at Edge you may even hear a still small voice speaking to your own heart.
  3. If you much prefer the hustle and bustle of the city, the sounds of traffic, noisy machines, blaring TVs, loud speakers and amplifiers cranked up to distortion levels, then Edge Resort is not the place for you. At Edge, the dominant sounds are the crash of waves, wind in the trees, bird song, chattering monkeys, chirping squirrels and buzzing cicadas.
  4. If you like crowds of people, swinging nightlife and constant excitement, then Edge may not be to your taste. With just 15 rooms it is never crowded and the nearest village is 4 kilometers away. On special occasions Edge features live music and/or cultural performances.
  5. If you are horrified by narrow, steep and rough roads then you should think twice about going to Edge. While it is only an hour’s drive from Yogyakarta or YIA, and not far from major roads, the last 10 minutes is up a steep, narrow road from Parangtritis Beach to Watu Gupit, a famous place for hang gliding. The last kilometer follows a rough, partially paved track through the jungle on a road that dead ends at the famous mystical cave, Goa Langse.
  6. If you are looking for a resort of unsurpassed luxury, where every possible human desire is met (or stimulated), and where cost is no objection, then Edge Resort is not for you. Edge was built by local artisans out of local, hand-hewn stone and marble. The facilities favor harmony with nature and Javanese architecture over luxury or opulence. Prices are very reasonable with most rooms starting at around USD $65.*
  7. If you prefer a chain hotel with standardized, mass-produced facilities, so that you know exactly what to expect, with no surprises, you may find Edge rather unusual. Instead of standard, plywood, hotel furniture, with a fake hardwood or formica veneer, Edge rooms feature antique, hand-made, solid teak or mahogany furnishings.
  8. If you are looking for a really inexpensive, simple and typical Indonesian hostel, with minimal facilities and questionable cleanliness, Edge is not what you seek. With air-conditioning, high-speed internet, hot showers, stone baths, fabulous views from every room and spotless cleanliness, Edge is not cheap. By international standards it is a real bargain, but remains slightly more expensive than nearby alternatives.
  9. If you want to stay at a place with many dining options within a short walk, Edge may not meet your needs. Ocean Cliff Restaurant at Edge offers delicious, reasonably priced, Indonesian, Chinese and Western cuisine with fabulous views of the sunset over the ocean, but it is your only option. Other restaurants and stalls are about a 10-minute drive from Edge. Hearty breakfasts are free with a room reservation and you can request a floating breakfast in the infinity pool.

  10. Finally, if you are afraid of wild animals and the thought of seeing monkeys outside of a zoo, fills you with dismay, you may want to avoid Edge. The jungles around Edge are full of monkeys and many different kinds of wildlife. Unlike some tourist attractions, the wildlife here is truly wild. The monkeys are still afraid of humans. We don’t feed them, so they don’t come too close. But you will see them in the trees.
